Last year I took a survey of people who had been micromanaged and how they handled it, and how it affected their relationship with their micromanager. The results won't surprise anyone who's been micromanaged, but they're very definite about how micromanaging doesn't get the results the micromanager wants. I'm going to go into the whole survey and the results next week after our big patriotic holiday here in the US tomorrow.
Speaking of which, I usually post “What, To The Slave, Is The Fourth Of July?” by Frederick Douglass on July 4, but this year just reading about our national problems isn't enough and we need to take action. I, personally, am focusing on voter registration right now and then I'll be working the poll on Election Day, and I encourage you to think about what one thing you can focus on really putting your back into for the next four months.
(Why am I being political on a Substack about good managing skills? Because no one can be a good manager under fascism, so we have to do everything we can to have the freedom to manage well. Democracy fever--catch it! )
Happy Independence Day to those of us who celebrate tomorrow, and a belated Happy Canada Day to our neighbors. (Sorry we're so messy AGAIN. We'll try to keep it on our side of the border. )
