In the March 2024 training workshop I talked about the need for project management software for teams that do projects, and after the training I got a question from a subscriber about PM software for non-project-based workflows:
“I do have a question/something I’ve pondered for a few months now as I think about how to improve things for my tiny team: what do you think about project management software in settings where most of the work is not “projects” but instead is cyclical? I’m an Accounting Supervisor in [a specialized] division of [an enormous B2B/B2C retailer/service provider]. Accounting is cyclical, with weekly, monthly, and annual cycles. [My] division uses a variety of systems (brand-dependent) in our [units], and some of that flows into one common accounting software, but it’s not on the platform that the rest of our company uses. Basically, in many respects our division is not supported by the company’s systems and processes, so we wing it and there is far too little documentation of how our work works, so to speak.
